I just saw an email going around about Biz Markie playing in Vancouver next month, Sunday Sept 12th. It made me think of my all time favourite cover song. Beastie Boys and the Biz throwin down on their rendition of Elton John’s Bennie & the Jets. The Biz just slays it, I’m not sure if the topper is his
voice or the fact the he has no idea what the lyrics are. Either way in my books this is the number one of all time cover song. Check out this other classic, probably one of the best covers out there with a video.
Lets get some feedback from you guys on your favourite cover, post a comment with your contribution. If you have it email us the track and we’ll post it up.
Seen Kings of Leon perform The Pixies – Where is my mind? live this past July in Toronto. They killed it with that one.
I’ve been heavy into soul the last year or so. My homie Mark Paasuke showed me a cover of Gil Scott Heron’s Home Is Where The Hatred Is by Esther Phillips. It’s an awesome track and definitely one of the few covers that I think outdoes the original.
This shit would fit perfectly for a movie score, summer drives, or just walking down the block feeling gooood.
Indigo Jam Unit’s take on “I Believe in Miracles” originally by The Jackson Sisters. True, the English isn’t as good; but the vibe’s high and in the end music’s music.
Nas – “Hey Young World” (Slick Rick Cover)
