BONJAY: In cities and suburbs around the world, the next generation of young musicians are emerging. Inspired by the underground music of the last 30 years, they are unencumbered by the restrictions of style and attitude that traditionally divided genres. Cities that once tried to emulate New York or London are coming to the forefront, newly confident in their local blends. The youth are coming into their own, cheering the home team, celebrating wherever they can stay out late and telling their stories with cracked software and cheap guitars. To praise the metropolises of the world for their diversity seems quaint – it doesn’t seem worthy of self-congratulation if it’s all you’ve ever known.

Into this environment arrives Bonjay. Drawing their name from spice island slang for “Good God!”, Bonjay were born in a basement at Ottawa’s legendary Disorganised parties. What began as a simple crowd pleasing party lark has developed into a serious commitment to songwriting and production, including remixes for labels like Mad Decent, Ninjatune and Ghetto Arc (XL Recordings).

With Alanna on the mic and Pho on beats & effects, their live performance is a high-energy sound system of bass and soul. Dancehall innovation, indie sentiments, and R&B hooks – these are the sounds booming out from the jeeps, towers and headphones of young Toronto, and Bonjay makes them their own.

In 1987, a trio known as De La Soul formed from Long Island, NY roots and changed the landscape of hip-hop as we knew it. Now, for over 20 years they have rocked us with their De La songs full of inscrutable samplings, whimsically irreverent lyrics, social commentary, light rhythm and laid back rhymes. They have gained respect within and outside the hip hop community with their contributions to rap, as well as jazz, funk, soul and alternative genres. Not only are their musical innovations acclaimed and respected worldwide, but they paved a path for many alternative rap groups to come after them.

CLASSIXX-WEB

Classixx is an American production and DJ duo, based in Los Angeles, composed of Michael David and Tyler Blake. They were previously known as Young Americans.
…Tyler Blake and Michael David, childhood friends, started a DJ duo in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The name Classixx came from their liking of Classic Compilations of different music. The DJ duo is influenced by a plethora of music, ranging from old school R&B to Paul Simon to Kraftwerk.
David and Blake both attended the Berklee School of Music but dropped out. In their early twenties, Classixx had begun defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene. A change from the trance and techno inspired Electro that has been dominating dance floors, their Donna Summer’esque grooves have caught the ears of music aficionados, fans and artists alike. Recent remixes for groundbreaking and diverse artists include Phoenix, Mayer Hawthorne, Holy Ghost, Ladyhawke Fischerspooner, Groove Armada, Yacht, Beni, Drop the Lime and Major Lazer. According to Chicagoist, Classixx “became staples in DJ sets all over the world”.

Pitchfork wrote that the duo gave Phoenix’s “Lisztomania” “a gorgeously pillowy synth-disco framework”. The Los Angeles Times called it “pure disco cotton candy”.
Following the release of their debut hit single, “I’ll Get You” featuring Jeppe (Junior Senior), in the summer of 2009 on Paris based [Kitsune Records], Classixx is now prepping their debut album for release this winter.
